Guides For brand teams
Rules in a Skill. Visuals in a design system. Each campaign in a Project. Then test it: specs alone won't hold.

Logo files, hex values, type specs and finished work. Anthropic says to include real examples, such as a finished landing page, and not specs alone.
Rewrite adjectives as something you can check. Say what stays fixed and what can change.
35 of the 56 brands we studied use their own or licensed type. If yours does, supply the files you're licensed to use or name an open stand-in.
A folder named after the Skill, with a SKILL.md inside. Name and description first, then the rules. Keep it under 500 lines; move long material to reference files.
Zip the folder itself, not the files inside it. Then turn the Skill on in Customize, under Skills.
Ask Claude in a chat to build one from your files and connected apps. Anthropic says this works best for brand systems. Review the colors, type, components and layouts, then make a test project.
Turn on Published so your team's new projects use it. To change it later, open it from Claude Design organization settings and click Remix.

Three worked examples, generated from our brand studies. Use the format with your own brand, not theirs. Anthropic also publishes design skills you can add beside yours.

# Figma brand rules
## Color
- Black: #000000
- White: #FFFFFF
- Grey 54%: #757575
- Hairline: #D6D6D6
- Wash: #F5F5F5
- Red: #FF3737
## Type
- Figma Sans. Open stand-in: Inter
- Figma Sans. Open stand-in: Inter
- Figma Mono. Open stand-in: IBM Plex Mono
## Logo
- Wordmark in black or white only, chosen for APCA Lc 60 or better
- Full-color icon on white or black only; the mono outline icon may sit on color
- Clear space all round equals the mark's height
- Place marks on a layout's outer edge with even margins
## Voice
- Sentence case everywhere
- Figma as an adjective: "the Figma platform"
- "Tom's plugin for Figma design", not "Tom's Figma plugin"
- A landing page follows the homepage voice
## Never
- Colored buttons or colored text on the homepage
- Recoloring the icon shapes
- Wordmark on a low-contrast ground
- Color applied to the wordmark
- Wordmark on a low-contrast color
## Before you finish
- Logo hidden: Cover the logo. It should still read as Figma: white page, one light grotesque weight, square product media, a giant black Get started, two-tone heads.
- Swap test: Put another SaaS logo on it. If the oversized black button, grey continuation sentences and full-bleed product grid don't feel out of place, it's generic. ---

# Spotify brand rules
## Color
- Spotify Green: #1ED760
- Black: #121212
- White: #FFFFFF
- Pure black: #000000
- Plan grey: #242424

- Minimum 70px (logo) and 21px (icon) digital; 20mm and 6mm print
- Green logo only on black, white or non-duotoned photos
- Black logo on light grounds, white on dark
## Voice
- Sentence case everywhere except footer column heads
- Use the published link labels: GET SPOTIFY FREE, OPEN SPOTIFY, PLAY ON SPOTIFY, LISTEN ON SPOTIFY
- Numbers only when verifiable
## Never
- Don't introduce colors outside the brand palette
- Don't use over-saturated colors for CMYK print
- Don't make sections light
- Don't rotate, stretch or recolor
- Don't fill the waves
## Before you finish
- Logo hidden: Cover the logo. It should still read as Spotify: a #121212 page, a green pill, a wide black headline and saturated rounded cards.
- Swap test: Put another company's name on it. If nothing else changed, the icon-window hero, green-only actions and card colors are missing. ---
name: starbucks-study

# Starbucks brand rules
## Color
- Starbucks Green: #006241
- Accent Green: #00754A
- Light Green: #D4E9E2
- House Green: #1E3932
- Black: #000000
- Warm Neutral: #F2F0EB
## Type
- Sodo Sans. Open stand-in: Plus Jakarta Sans
- Sodo Sans. Open stand-in: Plus Jakarta Sans
- Lander (Lander Grande, Lander Tall). Open stand-in: Source Serif 4
## Logo
- Prefer the Siren alone, unlocked from the wordmark
- Siren grounds and colors: Black and House Green take White; Warm Neutral, Light Green and White take Starbucks Green
- Wordmark grounds and colors: Starbucks Green, Black and House Green take White; Warm Neutral and White take Starbucks Green; Light Green takes Black
- On packaging the Siren may be enlarged and cropped by the object's edge (paper bag, cup sleeve in the theory examples)
## Voice
- Functional doesn't mean sterile; it means clear
- Make every word count, and write for where the reader is
- When there's room, tell a passionate coffee story
- Pike headlines in spaced capitals; Lander and Sodo Sans lines in sentence case
## Never
- let a seasonal palette replace the greens
- use Accent Green as a large field
- use the 1971, 1987 or 1992 badges: they are shown as history
- put the Siren on a ground the page doesn't show for her
- recolor either mark outside the pairings above
## Before you finish
- Logo hidden: Cover the Siren. A brand green should still be in the frame, with honest product photography and Sodo Sans, Lander or Pike; if not, it isn't Starbucks yet.
- Dial check: Say where the piece sits between functional and expressive and why. Ordering and wayfinding should be the quietest; if the menu is louder than the social post, it's backwards.
- Swap test: Put another coffee chain's logo on it. If the greens, the Siren-led restraint and the warm, playful line don't feel out of place, it's generic. Anthropic publishes an example Skill called brand-guidelines in its public skills repository. It applies Anthropic's own brand to any artifact: seven colors, Poppins for headings, Lora for body text.
It shows the format. It won't put your brand into Claude. Yours keeps the same shape, a SKILL.md with a name and description, then your rules and values.
In Claude Code, add the repository with /plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills. Anthropic says the examples are for demonstration and education, so test before you rely on one.

The same idea, with different limits. ChatGPT Projects hold files by plan: up to 5 on Free, 25 on Go and Plus, and 40 on Edu, Pro, Business and Enterprise. Custom GPTs take up to 20 files, but OpenAI says it plans to retire them, with a standard date of December 11, 2026. Start with a Project.

An example Skill in Anthropic's public skills repository. It applies Anthropic's own colors and type, Poppins for headings and Lora for body text, so it shows the format but won't put your brand into Claude.
Your brand rules in a form Claude can use: a Project for writing, a Skill for repeatable rules, or a Claude Design design system for visual work. Most brand teams need the Skill and the design system.
A set of colors, type, components and layout patterns that Claude generates from your brand files and uses for new designs. Design systems are in beta on Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise plans.
Yes. Claude Design accepts PDFs, decks, logos and type specs. Anthropic also advises adding real examples, such as a finished landing page, and not specs alone.
On Team and Enterprise, share a Project, share or publish a Skill, or turn on Published for a design system. Shared Skills are view-only for the people who receive them.
A brand Skill with your voice, logo, color and type rules, plus logo files, type specs and finished work for a Claude Design design system. You can draft the Skill from your website, then fill the gaps.
Partly. ChatGPT Projects hold files and instructions, with file limits by plan. OpenAI says it plans to retire custom GPTs, so check its help pages before building on one.
All checked 2026-11-05. These products change often, so confirm before you rely on a limit.
