Guides · Updated Nov 5, 2026
Claude Design is Anthropic’s tool for making designs, prototypes, slides and one-pagers by chatting with Claude. Start it from any Claude conversation or the Artifacts tab. Attach your design system, describe what you want, then refine on the canvas and export. It is on every Claude plan, Free included.
Claude builds the design next to the conversation. You refine it by chat, by comments on one element, or by dragging, resizing and aligning it yourself.
Ask for a design in any conversation, pick a Design template in the Artifacts tab, use /design in Claude Code, or ask from the mobile apps.
Launched April 17, 2026 as a research preview. The standalone site at claude.ai/design closes December 14, 2026.
Yes, on every Claude plan.
In a conversation, choose Output, then Design. Or open the Artifacts tab and pick a Design template.
Pick the system that holds your colors, type and components.
Screenshots, existing assets, a deck, a document or a codebase.
Name the goal, the layout, the content and the audience.
Claude builds a first version and may ask questions first.
Comment on one element for a targeted change. Edit directly for quick visual fixes.
Designs start private. Share to let people view, comment or edit.
Give Claude a codebase, a deck, logos, a palette or type specs. It pulls out colors, type, components and layout. Claude checks its output against the system before you see it.
Anthropic’s own tip: add finished work, like a real landing page, not only specs. If the first pass misses, upload more.
A design system holds the look. Voice, logo rules and what never to do belong in a skill or a DESIGN.md.
Brand guidelines in ClaudeAn admin can approve one standard system for the team and lock edits.
It makes a version fast. It does not decide what is on brand.
A thin design system gives generic work. Most brands live in a PDF and a few people’s heads, not in a file Claude can read.
Claude Design is on Free. Design systems are a beta on Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise.
More people can make assets. Someone has to decide which ones are on brand before a buyer sees them.
Design work shares your plan’s usage limits with the rest of Claude. Large codebases and many rounds use more.
Figma is not on Anthropic’s export list. A team that finishes work in Figma needs another route.

Claude Design is itself a template: open the Artifacts tab and pick a Design template. Your design system then sets the look.
Not directly. Figma is not on Anthropic’s export list. Figma can capture a working UI from Claude Code as editable frames.
The standalone site closes December 14, 2026. Claude Design keeps working inside Claude, and design systems can be moved over before then.
