The lesson

In an update to backers, name who each ask is for and when it is due, and say up front that none is money.

The move

A 1903 investor update rebuilt as a deck by Pitch Unfairly. The cover says "December update: it flies." The asks slide is headed "Three asks this month, none of them money." Three cards are tagged "FOR FATHER", "FOR ANYONE" and "FOR KATHARINE", each with a due line: "TONIGHT", "BY SPRING", "ONGOING".

Why it works

  • Our readTagging each card with a recipient and a deadline turns a status report into a task list, with each reader's line easy to spot.
  • Our readThe metrics slide sets each result against a yardstick, such as "Plan: 1. Dec. 14: 0" and "Spec called for 8", so progress reads as measured.
  • Our readA telegram card with a typing cursor puts the whole result in one artifact before any detail, and the following slides expand it.

What not to copy

Skip the period typography and the paper textures. Keep three asks maximum, each with an owner and a date.
