The lesson

Start onboarding with what the learner will be able to do, each outcome tied to a check, and strike out what you won't teach.

The move

A deck rebuilt by Pitch Unfairly. After "Welcome, Daniel-san. Please bring wax.", the outcomes slide lists four ticked abilities such as "Block a punch without thinking about it." Each has a CHECK line ("Your sensei throws one, unannounced."). Under NOT ON THE SYLLABUS, three topics are struck through. A quiz slide says "Don't scroll back. Answer from memory."

Why it works

  • Our readEvery outcome comes with a way to prove it, so the learner knows what done looks like before the first chore. The struck-out list tells them what to ignore.
  • Our readThe wax-on slide gives the task first, with a reps counter, and a THE WHY field marked "After Day 4". Withholding the reason is shown as a deliberate step.

What not to copy

Leave the karate and the 56% versus 42% recall figure (it is quoted as on the slide, with its citation). Keep the outcome-plus-check pairing and the memory quiz mid-deck.
