The lesson

Prove a category shift by lining up earlier winners, striking out their incumbents, and putting yourself in the last highlighted row.

The move

In this Pitch Unfairly rebuild, one slide says "Every 2.0 winner reads the network, not the claim." A table runs market, struck-through 1.0 incumbent, then 2.0 winner: Goods listings to eBay, Online payments to PayPal, Search to Google, and a blue highlighted row for Professional people search to LinkedIn.

Why it works

  • Our readThree familiar names come first, so by the time LinkedIn appears in the fourth row the pattern feels established and it reads as the next entry.
  • Our readThe business-model slide gives each of three revenue lines a payer and a price ("Employers pay", "$79 a listing, open 30 days"), which answers the investor's money question directly.

What not to copy

The dates, prices and spend figures are part of the rebuilt story, not evidence. Keep the analogy table, and make sure every row you list truly did the same thing.
