The lesson

Turn annual platform data into a news story: give the report a headline claim, a bold stat strip, then custom graphics for the findings.

The move

The post is headlined "Octoverse: AI leads Python to top language as the number of global developers surges" over an "Octoverse 2024" hero. A strip of big figures follows (including 518M and 5.2B). Sections such as "A global community of developers that's growing fast" add a world heatmap, a ranked "Top 10 developers communities on GitHub" chart, a projection chart and regional tables.

Why it works

  • Our readThe headline states a conclusion, not a report title, so it works as a news headline someone could share.
  • Our readThe stat strip gives skimmers the headline numbers near the top of the article, and the next section opens with a strip of its own.
  • Our readRegional tables and spotlights give readers in specific places a reason to find their own region, which makes a global report personally relevant.

What not to copy

Don't call something a state-of-the-industry report unless you hold the underlying data. Keep the structure: claim headline, stat strip, then findings carried by visuals.
