The lesson

Film the product from above on a blank background with only hands in view, and let the product be the subject.

The move

A top-down view shows the OP-1 field on a pale grey surface. Hands rest at both edges of the device, later press the keys from below, and one later view shows a single hand at the bottom corner. Black keys, the display and four knobs in navy, tan, grey and red carry the contrast.

Why it works

  • Our readWith nothing else in view, the keys and knobs are the only things to look at, and the hands show how they are used.
  • Our readThe grey sweep matches the pale body of the device, so the knobs and black keys stand out.
  • Our readOne fixed camera angle makes the film easy to repeat for another product.

What not to copy

This only works for a product that is visibly worth looking at. Keep the fixed overhead angle and the hands-only rule, and drop it for software with nothing physical to film.
