The lesson

Launch a creative tool with an illustrated character using the interface as her materials, and keep real UI to glimpses.

The move

An illustrated film. A woman in a red top, white trousers and orange boots stands against flat violet with a small sun and clouds, then walks. Another scene turns the world into rolling gradient hills, with translucent interface panels, a toolbar and a selection box with corner handles floating around her.

Why it works

  • Our readA flat violet scene with one figure is calm and sparse, which makes the dense, panel-filled landscape stand out by contrast.
  • Our readPutting selection handles and floating panels into the landscape shows what the tool does without a screen recording.
  • Our readA warm, bright palette (orange boots, red top against violet) keeps the character easy to pick out.

What not to copy

Don't copy the character or palette. Keep the idea of drawing the product's own controls into the story world, and use the product itself sparingly.
