The lesson

Open a bid by saying who is presenting what to whom in one large sentence, with only the thing being sought set in red.

The move

The cover page is dated "DECEMBER 2014". One large right-aligned sentence says the University of Illinois at Chicago and North Lawndale are honored to present the foundation with their round two proposal, and "Barack Obama Presidential Library" is set in red. Nothing else sits on the page.

Why it works

  • Our readSetting only the final phrase in red tells the reader the object of the whole bid before they turn the page.
  • Our readA sentence set as the cover makes the argument start immediately; no logo wall, photo or subtitle gets between reader and claim.
  • Our readNaming two parties as the presenters shows the bid as a partnership from the first line.

What not to copy

Don't copy the formal wording or the scanned print look. Keep the single large sentence, with the one phrase that matters in the accent color.
