The lesson

Open a bid section with one emotional claim in large type over a crowd photo, and let the text beside it back it up.

The move

A landscape spread puts "THERE IS SOMETHING MAGICAL ABOUT THIS PLACE." in thin white capitals at left over a blue-tinted stadium crowd photo. Red and yellow angular shards overlap the photo's lower left. Two paragraphs sit at right; the second opens "This is the promise that awaits in Eugene."

Why it works

  • Our readA headline about a feeling gives the evaluators a mood to hold before the detail pages.
  • Our readThe crowd photo shows the full stands, which supports the claim of a place where fans show up.
  • Our readThe red and yellow shards are part of the bid's graphic identity, so the spread reads as the bid's own brand.

What not to copy

Don't write "magical" for a place you can't back up. The scan here is skewed and low-resolution, so keep the one-line claim over a photo, not the print quality.
